The American Society of Appraisers estimates that certain types of pewter collectibles are worth far more than their intrinsic materials on the open market. Compared to silver, pewter’s metallurgical value is low. However, the “melt” value of silver is significantly lower than the value of many ancient pewter artefacts that collectors seek out.
The ancient pewter is not the only valuable component. Due to its malleability and antique appearance, pewter has been widely used by figurine manufacturers like the Franklin Mint. These figurines have been collected by fans of everything from cowboys and Indians to Civil War soldiers.
