Does Stress Cause Boils?

According to the American Dermatological Association, stress causes skin to become drier and more fragile, making it susceptible to infection by staphylococcal, the bacteria responsible for the majority of boils. According to WebMD, dry skin allows bacteria to enter the body through microscopic cracks.

According to the American Psychological Association, high amounts of cortisol and other stress hormones can lead to a weakened immune system. Tiny skin tears are more prone to infection by the bacterium that causes boils when combined with irregular skin care practises, which are prevalent during times of high stress. The American Dermatological Association suggests studying stress management strategies to increase the skin’s resistance against staphylococcal infection. Techniques for stress management can improve the general appearance of the skin and increase the immune system.
