‘Subject of Flags’ on the Nationwide Mall represents the individuals who can not attend Biden’s inauguration.

For 90 minutes on Monday, a swath of the nationwide mall was illuminated with 56 “pillars of sunshine” and near 200,000 flags in an artwork show representing the people who find themselves unable to attend the presidential inauguration due to the coronavirus pandemic and restrictive safety measures.

The show represents all 50 states, Washington, D.C., and the US’s 5 completely inhabited territories.

In keeping with President-elect Joseph R. Biden Jr.’s inaugural committee, the artwork show represented a “dedication to an inclusive and protected occasion that everybody can take pleasure in from their house.”
