The Herman Survivor boot company does not exist, and Wal-Mart owns and manufactures the current Herman Survivor boots. The Herman Survivor brand was acquired from Work ‘N Gear in 2001. The shoes are currently available only at Wal-Mart.
The Herman family owned a very popular brand of boots known as Herman Survivor. There are no records of when the original Herman boots were made, but Stride Rite soon acquired the Herman Survivor name and began manufacturing and marketing the boots in its stores. Anthony DiPaolo, who would later become the CEO of Work ‘N Gear, purchased Herman Survivor boots in 1990. After eleven years and millions of dollars in sales, Work ‘N Gear sold the Herman Survivor brand to Wal-Mart.
Since Wal-acquisition Mart’s of Herman Survivor boots, production has been outsourced to China. The boots are currently sold solely at Walmart locations. Prior to Wal-acquisition, Mart’s Herman Survivor boots were renowned for their durability and dependability. However, with Wal-ownership, Mart’s the boots’ reputation has diminished. The boots range in price from $40 to $80 and are available in a variety of styles and hues.
