1964 saw the opening of the first Cabela’s store in the basement of the founder’s father’s furniture store. Dick Cabela, the company’s original founder, began the company as a mail-order business in 1961, and catalogue and online sales constitute a significant percentage of the company’s revenue, shipping products to 125 countries outside of the United States.
