To wire an ignition switch, you have to find the switch, look at the pins, disconnect the negative battery cable, connect the lead wire to the ACC terminal, connect the relay wire to the ST terminal, connect the ignition wire to the IGN terminal, and reconnect the negative battery cable. When you disconnect the cable, you can see the terminals and connect the power lead wires to the switch terminal.
The battery, start, ignition, and accessory terminals are on the back of the ignition switch. Here’s what you need to do to wire an ignition switch:
Step 1: Disconnect the battery’s negative end.
Before you can find the positive power lead to the switch, you must first disconnect the negative end of the battery. After that, put the right terminal end on the power lead wire and connect it to the terminal on the battery.
Step 2: Connect the lead wire for the accessory
The next step is to use the right wire terminal to connect the accessory lead wire to the accessory terminal. When the ignition is in the ACC position, the accessory lead wire turns on other parts of the car, like the radio.
Step 3: Hook up the wire for the starter relay
The wire from the starter relay needs to be hooked up to the ignition switch’s Start terminal.
Step 4: Hook up the wire to the starter.
The last step is to hook up the ignition wire to the ignition switch’s ignition terminal. The IGN terminal gives power to the car’s starter, wipers, accessories, and other parts. The cable needs to be hooked back up to the negative end of the battery.
