The Los Angeles Lakers have fired coach Frank Vogel after he missed the play-offs on Monday.

Vogel was released after the team closed its season with a win over the Denver Nuggets.

โ€œI have deep respect for Frank on and off the court,โ€ Lakers general manager Rob Pelinka said in a statement.

Rumors of Vogelโ€™s dismissal first surfaced last week. After the victory over Nuggets, he was asked about the possibility of dismissal. According to The Athletic, he told reporters he was โ€œnot told โ€”โ€ and was preparing to face what was to come the next day.

The Lakers hired Vogel before the start of the 2019-20 season.

Los Angeles was 52-19 and the Orlando bubble went to the playoffs after the coronavirus epidemic stopped basketball for months.
