Lewis Dunk has signed a brand new five-year contract with Brighton and Hove Albion following hypothesis linking him with Chelsea.

The defender was reportedly a goal for Frank Lampard, who is keen to strengthen his defence forward of the 2020-21 season.

There have been rumours Chelsea had been ready to supply £40million for the 28-year-old, who has been with Brighton for his complete profession other than a brief mortgage spell with Bristol Metropolis.

Captain Dunk has apparently ended discuss over his future by agreeing to a deal that can maintain him on the membership till 2025.

Head coach Graham Potter instructed the membership’s web site: “We’re completely delighted that Lewis has made this long-term dedication to the membership. It’s implausible information for everybody: the membership, the supporters, the group and myself.

“Since I got here to the membership he’s been a pleasure to work with and he’s a prime participant. We’re very fortunate to have him.

“I believe his position as captain is one he’s grown into and one he’ll do higher and higher for the following few years.”
