Texas inmates enlisted to hold our bodies at morgue amid COVID-19 surge
Inmates in Texas are reportedly getting used to assist the El Paso County Medical Examiner’s workplace deal with the inflow of our bodies as coronavirus circumstances surge within the space.
A number of El Paso County inmates had been noticed on the ME’s workplace on Saturday by a photographer with The Texas Tribune. The inmates had been wearing PPE gear and shifting our bodies into cell morgues stationed exterior the constructing.
A spokesman with the El Paso County Sheriff’s Workplace confirmed to the Tribune that 4 to eight inmates are voluntarily serving to on the ME’s workplace — and getting paid $2 an hour to take action.
The inmates, from the county detention facility’s trustee program, started shifts final Monday, the spokesman advised the newspaper.
There have been a complete of eight cell morgues exterior the ME’s workplace on Saturday, the Tribune reported. The quantity will quickly be elevated to 10.
The brand new measures come as COVID-19 circumstances within the county have spiked, particularly within the final month.
