Two girls from Japan and Brazil have created history at an age when most kids are only seen on Instagram. On Monday, 26 July 2021, at the Tokyo Olympics, 13 years 330 days old Momiji Nishiya and 13 years and 203 days Raisa Leal won the gold medal and silver medal respectively in the street skateboarding competition.

With this, Japan’s Momiji Nishiya became the youngest gold-winning athlete in Olympic history. However, she missed the record of winning the gold medal as the youngest in the Olympics. America’s Marjorie Gestring holds the record for the youngest Olympic gold medalist.

Skateboarding is included in the Olympics for the first time. Brazil’s Raisa Leal finished second. Both these 13-year-old athletes are being praised on social media.

The special thing is that out of the eight players who made it to the finals of skateboarding, four were less than 16 years old. The bronze medal also went to Japan. 16-year-old Funa Nakayama of Japan won the bronze medal.

By winning gold and silver medals in Momiji and Raisa at such a young age, it has been proved that age does not matter if there is a passion in the heart to do something.

After winning the gold medal, Momiji Nishiya told that she would ask her mother to cook Japanese yakiniku barbecue for dinner and thus celebrate her victory. At the same time, Raisa Leal said, now I can get all my friends to skateboard with me everywhere.
