What Are Some Reasons Why Teachers Should Be Paid More?

Reasons for increasing teacher compensation include the possible rise in teacher satisfaction, the attraction of higher-quality candidates to teaching positions, incentives for teachers to pursue continued higher education, and the elimination of the necessity for instructors to hold secondary occupations. According to the Washington Post, the average starting teacher wage in the United States is currently $39,000.

When teachers receive more money, their job satisfaction rises and they are more likely to give their all in the classroom. Additionally, increased compensation attract teachers with superior qualifications, experience, and education, thereby enhancing the quality of instruction. Teachers are also more inclined to pursue graduate degrees when they anticipate increased compensation. Young professionals are sometimes discouraged from pursuing teaching jobs since they can earn significantly better pay in other fields.

According to the New York Times, more than sixty percent of teachers work additional jobs to support themselves and their families. They may tutor kids on the side, teach college-level classes at night, or work in restaurants.

Teachers who are required to work multiple jobs are exhausted, depleted, and unmotivated. By increasing teachers’ compensation, school districts decrease the necessity for alternative jobs, hence enhancing classroom instruction.
