There is no postal code for either the city of Nassau or the Commonwealth of the Bahamas. Even though the Bahamas government has taken some first steps to modernise their postal service, not much has been done.
There are more than 700 islands in the Bahamas, so most mail is sent by boat. The Yellow Pages of the Bahamas say that mail delivery is very slow. Most of the time, it takes a letter a few weeks to get there. Mail is sent to general post offices, where individuals, families, or businesses who are Bahamian citizens and at least 18 years old can rent a post office box for an annual fee of $30 to $80. So, the only way to send mail to the Bahamas is through a post office box. When electronic databases have trouble accepting addresses in Nassau or the Bahamas because there isn’t a ZIP code or postal code, sometimes typing “00000” helps the database accept the address.
