In football, the word “ATH” means “athlete.” There is a list of players by position, name, and school who are eligible to be recruited. If a football player can play a lot of different positions or doesn’t have a strong specialty, he is listed as ATH.
A player who is listed as ATH is more versatile because the coach can train him to specialise in any position. Because he is athletic, he can play any of several positions on the field. Richard Sherman is a great cornerback for the Seattle Seahawks. In high school, he played wide receiver, punt returner, and defensive back, so Stanford recruited him as an all-around athlete.
