Most people think of the evening as the time between about 4 p.m. and 10 p.m., which is just before sunset and just after nightfall or bedtime. “Evening” is usually used to describe a vague time between afternoon and night.
In the Midlands of England and the southern part of the United States, “evening” refers to a longer part of the day. In these parts of the world, “evening” starts around 12 p.m. and ends when the sun goes down.
