The area of a surface, such as a floor or a piece of land, is measured in square feet. A space that is 1,000 square feet can be in many different shapes.
Depending on the shape of an area, there are different ways to figure out how many square feet it has. You can figure out the square footage of a square or rectangular space by multiplying the width by the length.
For example, a 50-foot-long by 20-foot-wide room would be 1,000 square feet. A room with a length of 40 feet and a width of 50 feet could also be 1,000 square feet. It would have one right angle and be 40 feet long and 50 feet wide.
