What Is Production Orientation?

The production orientation marketing approach focuses on the company’s products rather than the wants and needs of customers. Market orientation and sales orientation are two more types of tactics.

“If you build it, they will come” is the simple mentality of businesses that adhere to a production orientated philosophy. This mindset disregards customers’ interests and requirements. Instead, the corporation chooses to devote all of its resources to constructing a product that is superior to all of its competitors.

Companies who adhere to this strategy place all other marketing strategies on hold. For instance, it is a frequent misconception that advertising is unnecessary since the quality of the products is so excellent that they will sell themselves. Not as crucial as the product’s overall quality are sales calls and other marketing strategies.

This immediately contradicts the strategies of a market- or sales-oriented worldview. Companies that adhere to a market orientation ideology endeavour to identify and then satisfy the consumers’ declared and unstated wants. Those businesses that adhere to a sales orientation mentality focus their resources on promoting product sales through sales calls and other marketing and advertising tactics.
