In the United States, a 13-year-old boy’s average height is 61.5 inches, while a 13-year-old girl’s average height is 62 inches. Average heights are different for 13-year-old boys and girls, in part because puberty tends to start earlier in girls than in boys.
Even though the above measurements are average, it is normal for both boys and girls to have a wide range of heights. Both men and women are put on a sliding percentile scale, and the 50th percentile, which is the average height, is the same for both. Boys and girls are often at the extreme ends of the scale, but they are still thought to be healthy. Because every teen is different, it’s best to talk to the child’s primary care doctor about any worries.
