House Plans says that the sizes of three-bedroom homes in the US range from 976 square feet to more than 2,600 square feet. The average American home with three bedrooms and two bathrooms is between 1,200 and 1,400 square feet. This is much smaller than the average home size in 2009, which was 2,164 square feet.
Overall, Hong Kong, China, and Russia have much smaller homes than the United States, Australia, and Canada. How big a homeowner thinks his home is often depends on how the real estate market defines “bedrooms.” In some places, a room can’t be called a bedroom unless it has at least one window, a closet, and its own door.
