What Is the Halfway Point of a Year?

On July 2, which is the 183rd day of a year with 365 days, the year is about half over. July 1 marks the middle of a leap year, which is 366 days long.

Noon on the given day marks the exact middle of a year of either length. This doesn’t take into account that a year on the Western, or Gregorian, calendar, which is based on the movement of the sun, is slightly longer than 365 days but shorter than 366 days. On this calendar, July 1 or July 2 is also only the middle of the year. The year on the lunar calendar only has 354 days.
