A production department’s responsibility is to ensure that the transformation of raw materials into finished goods is carried out efficiently and precisely. This procedure is supported by five functions performed by the department.
The primary duty is to create standards for the quality and quantity of manufactured goods. These requirements are typically put throughout the entire process, not just at the beginning or finish. The second role of the department is to collaborate with the buying department to guarantee that sufficient supplies are on the production line and that broken equipment is replaced. The purchasing department collaborates with other departments to ensure that all equipment and supplies ordered are stocked and accessible.
The following duty is to collaborate with the design and technical departments to guarantee that the product is constructed according to the correct specifications and to implement any new designs or modifications to the product onto the production line. Lastly, the manufacturing department coordinates with the works department to guarantee there is sufficient manpower available to inspect the product’s quality and fix any broken equipment.
The production department and marketing department do not collaborate directly. However, it maintains communication with marketing to guarantee that the products are desirable and appealing to clients.
