Most blue-collar jobs, like those of track switch repairmen, machinists, and oil pump system operators, are considered manual labour. As the name suggests, manual labour refers to jobs where most of the work involves doing things with your hands instead of using a computer.
Most manual labour jobs don’t require any skills, but there are some exceptions. Even though many manual labour jobs don’t require a lot of skills, they pay well because of the level of risk or the environment the worker must live in. For example, many jobs in the oil industry require manual labour. These jobs can be dangerous, and people often have to live away from home while doing them. This is why they usually pay well.
