Otis Williams’s son, Otis Lamont Williams, died in a construction accident in Detroit in 1983. He was a construction worker there. Otis Lamont Williams was born in 1961, the same year that his dad married Josephine Rogers, who was his first wife. Otis Miles Williams and Hazel Louise Williams had Otis Williams in 1941.
Otis Williams is a member of the Motown group The Temptations and a record producer and songwriter. He is the only original member who is still alive. He is a baritone singer and songwriter who started his career in Detroit. The early single “Dream Come True” by The Temptations was his first big hit. Williams never sang the lead on any of The Temptations’ songs, but he was on all of their albums, from “Meet the Temptations” in 1964 to “Phoenix Rising” in 1998.
Williams became interested in music at a young age. In high school, he used his mother’s maiden name when he played music. He started several singing groups, including Otis Williams and the Siberians, The El Domingoes, and The Distants. The Distants were the most successful of these groups. They did well locally and got some attention from record companies. Williams left The Distants when Motown Records offered to sign them. Then, he and another former member of The Distants started a band called The Elgins. In March 1961, Motown signed this group, which was then called The Temptations.
With many lineup changes, the Temptations went on to become one of the most popular bands of the next few decades. Williams has been with the Temptations longer than any other member, and he is the only one of the band’s original members still alive. Williams rarely sang the lead part in the band’s songs. Instead, he chose to sing background vocals in the mid-range or record spoken word tracks.
Arleata “Goldie” Williams, who is Otis Williams’s third wife, gave him a daughter. Elan Carter’s daughter was born in 1983. In June 1994, she was the Playmate of the Month in the magazine Playboy. In 1997, Arleata and Otis split up.
Ann Cain was Williams’s second wife. From 1967 to 1973, they were married. He was also engaged to the famous R&B singer Patti LaBelle and dated Florence Ballard of The Supremes.
