Wichita man accused of threatening to kidnap, kill metropolis’s mayor
A Wichita, Kansas man who hated his metropolis’s face masks mandate was arrested Friday evening for allegedly threatening to kidnap and homicide the mayor, a report mentioned.
Meredith Dowty, 59, was busted for the alleged threats towards Wichita’s Mayor Brandon Whipple, the Kansas Metropolis Star reported.
Dowty, a well-liked native musician and retired metropolis firefighter, texted the risk to a different metropolis official, the mayor instructed the Star.
“He mentioned he was going to kidnap me and slash my throat,” the mayor alleged of Dowty.
“And he wanted my handle as a result of I wanted to see the hangman — me and everybody who — one thing about tyranny,” Whipple mentioned.
Police confirmed Dowty’s arrest to the newspaper and mentioned he might face a felony risk cost.
“It sounded just like the individual was very upset about just about masks mandates and he mentioned one thing about not having the ability to see his mom due to COVID restrictions on aged houses,” Whipple mentioned of Dowty.
“This wasn’t just a few man popping off on social media,” Whipple mentioned.
“He contacted somebody that is aware of the place I dwell that apparently he thought would give him my handle.”
Wichita’s masks ordinance, championed by the mayor, requires face coverings be worn in most public settings, the newspaper reported.
